Job Interviews are essential to helping employers know more about their potential employees. The key factors evaluated will be the interview along with the applicants professional and educational background. The results provide a strong indication to the employer as to whether or not you are suited for the job.

Interviews are important because it shows your personality and other attributes that cannot be deduced from your resume. To ensure that you have the best possible chance of getting hired, it is best that you prepare for the job interview. Preparation, however, is not limited to just the job interview questions.

Preparations begin before the job interview

  • Choose the clothes that you'll wear. Depending on the job interview, smart casuals or better yet, office attire should be worn.

  • Observe good hygiene and make sure you're well-groomed for the job interview. This includes a trip to the salon or barber if needed.

  • Print out a copy of your resume. Employers sometimes ask for another copy of your resume during the job interview.

  • Plan days ahead of your interview. Make sure you don't have prior commitments scheduled on the same day or time slot as the interview.

  • Practice your answers to the most probable interview questions.

    Relax and unwind. Don't be too stressed for that important interview.

Frequently asked job interview questions

  • Tell us something about yourself that is not included in the resume.

  • Why are you interested in the job position?

  • Why should we hire you?

  • How long do you plan to stay with the company if you're accepted?

  • What are your short-term goals?

  • What are your long-term goals?

  • Why should we choose you over other applicants?

  • What can you contribute to the company?

  • What was your previous salary?

  • What is your expected salary?

Depending on the job position, there are times when impromptu questions regarding hypothetical situations created by employers are given to test the knowledge and competence of the applicant. For example: "Given our target clientele and our products, what marketing plan will you device to increase company profits?"

The responses given by applicants to these situations give the employers an idea of how the applicant thinks. Also, quick answers to these unexpected questions are often expected to test the ability of the applicant to come up with spontaneous answers. Most of the time, these questions are asked when the position that the applicant is applying for entails a certain degree of quickness in decision making. Moreover, it also tests the ability of the applicant in handling pressure and unexpected events.

More than being able to give correct answers to job interview questions, the applicant must be able to give his responses in a confident manner. Another important consideration is how the applicant is able to deliver his responses through correct use of speech and grammar.

Importance of job interviews

The interviews serve as a tool to screen the applicant(s) who are most suited for the job(s). Thus, it provides information needed to find that perfect match between employer and employee.

Meanwhile, it is also an opportunity for the prospective employee to learn more about the job position and the company. By being able to gain this knowledge, the applicant will be able to gauge whether they are the right person for the job, or if they are willing to work given the conditions set forth in the interview.

While job offers are usually held until after the interview and not during the same meeting; there are companies who present offers during the job interview itself.

Regardless of how job interviews are done, they will always be of the utmost importance when job hunting both to employers, and to prospective employees.
