Ahoy Matey's, The Pirates are Coming to Party!

Author: Gail Leino

Is the pirate's life for you? A Pirate theme party will do just the trick then. Celebrate a birthday, a graduation, Halloween or any event buccaneer style! Pirates aren't just for the boys either - they always had pirate girls too!

A Pirate party would need to have costumes to fit the part! Have your guests dress in costume or have costume making be part of the activities. Eye patches can be made with black construction paper, felt or foam. Cut a diamond shape and poke two holes on the side. Tie yarn or string onto the holes and then tie it around the head and over the eye. Swords can be cut out of silver paper or cardboard. Hats can be made of felt or use bandana to tie on as do-rags.

For the head pirate, buy a stuffed bird or a real one if you have it, and keep him on the shoulder all night long. Use aluminum foil to curve a hook and hold onto to become Captain Hook. Wigs, long coats, beards and being really dirty are also authentic duds for pirates, but you probably want to leave the smelly part off!

Games to play at a Pirate them party would include plank walking. Use a piece of board or simply put a runner of tape on the floor to follow along and balance on. If you fall, into the croc pit you go! You could also play pin the hook on the pirate or pin the crossbones on the flag. Watch a pirate movie for more entertainment ideas.

Party supply stores have all of the tools for a Captain or First Mate to have a great party. Pirate cups, plates and napkins are available if you will be serving food or drinks. Decorations of balloons, bird wall hangings, ships and skull and crossbones flags can be used for any room or hall.
