Information About Lowering Cholesterol

Author: blueboy

Are you concerned about your cholesterol level? Has your doctor warned you that your cholesterol levels are too high? Are you trying hard to reduce your cholesterol level? If you have answered yes to any of these three questions this article may well be of benefit to you. I am going to write about how to lower cholesterol and also about the effect that eating foods containing reducol can have.

I know all about the problem of having high cholesterol, it is something which has affected many generations of my own family, mainly on the male side. At the age of thirty-two my father advised me to go to the doctors to have my own levels of cholesterol checked as my grandfather had died of a heart attack aged sixty-six and my father himself had had a number of near scares and now had chronic pancreatis.

I did not really think that I needed to have this cholesterol test and was amazed and shocked when the doctor told me that my level was at eight point eight. I obviously needed to reduce this figure, however the news was not all bad as I also had high levels of what they call happy cholesterol and the risk of me having a heart attack or stroke in the next ten years was only at 7.1 percent. Over fifteen percent is a cause for concern and the realistic need to go on some form of statin pills.

Reducol is found in foods such as vegetables and fruits and can have a remarkable effect on lowering cholesterol, basically it acts to stop most of the cholesterol in the gut passing into the bloodstream. The good news is that it lowers the level of bad cholesterol but does not lower your good or happy cholesterol levels.

Foods to avoid when attempting to lower cholesterol:

pastries and pies

cakes

crisps and chocolate

butter

chips and other forms of take-away food

It is also advisable to reduce your intake of alcohol and to attempt to exercise on a daily basis.
